PSG could move fast to land Lionel Messi with ‘discussions’ after Barcelona exit

PSG could land Lionel Messi this summer should the French giants move swiftly following his exit from Barcelona.

Messi drew to a close his time at Barcelona on Thursday evening, when the club announced they would not be re-signing their Argentine star.

The Catalan side have been thrown into a financial crisis, and they don't have the available funds to tie down Messi to a new deal at the Nou Camp.

Messi has now been left as a free agent for the first time in his career.

And, PSG could secure his signature sooner rather than later as they open 'discussions' with the former Ballon d'Or winner.

French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi tweeted: "For several hours, Leo Messi is in discussions with Paris Saint Germain. Negotiations are underway. PSG are very attentive to the situation in order to find a solution."

PSG have registered a long-standing interest in Messi, however, a deal seemed impossible until now.

Messi also has a close friendship with PSG's Brazilian superstar Neymar, and the pair spent time together in Barcelona.

Messi had dinner with PSG players Neymar, Angel Di Maria, Leandro Paredes and Marco Verratti in Ibiza before the announcement.

The 34-year-old almost joined Manchester City last season after battling with Barcelona over his release clause.

However, Messi agreed to a one-year extension, which expired in July, to remain in Spain.

But Pep Guardiola's side are not expected to join the race for Messi, and instead, they will try to add Harry Kane to their ranks after securing the services of Jack Grealish.

Chelsea have also been linked with the services of Messi.
