Premier League unveil new ball for 2022/23 season as fans say the same thing

The ball for the 2022/23 Premier League season has been unveiled and fans are absolutely loving the stylish retro throwback.

Featuring a solid white base encircled by numerous gold-orange 'X's, it strongly resembles the iconic Mitre Pro-Max match-ball first used during the Premier League's inaugural season back in 1992/93.

Posting a couple of photos of Nike's new creation on Twitter, the league's official account confirmed that the design was indeed a nod to its past, writing: "Inspired by the first #PL season, 30 years ago," before urging fans to pick one up for themselves when the ball hits the shelves on July 15.

Fans swarmed to social media in their thousands, with the vast majority of them in awe of the gorgeous hunk of leather.

"Whether or not it's a mock up of the Mitre Pro-Max its a beaut," one fan tweeted, while another said: "Now that's a proper football."

"Can you fancy a football? Asking for a friend," a third joked, before Mitre themselves joined in with the fun, tweeting a photo of their classic ball along with the caption: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Others began predicting which player would be taking the ball home most often next season, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez all getting plenty of mentions.

The ball is the third edition of Nike's Flight design, and contains the same specs as its predecessors – including AerowSculpt technology, which is aimed at improving aerodynamic consistency and giving the ball a 'truer' flight.

It'll be used for the first time on August 5 when Arsenal face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the opening day of the season.
