Premier League team of the week featuring Bruno Fernandes and Troy Deeney

While there were only eight Premier League fixtures played over the weekend due to the Carabao Cup final, there was still plenty of drama.

Liverpool’s unbeaten season came to a calamitous end as Nigel Pearson’s relegation-threatened Watford pulled out a one-in-a-million performance.

Wolves’ charge for Champions League qualification is still gaining more momentum as they won 3-2 away at top-four rivals Tottenham.

West Ham picked up a priceless victory against Southampton to give themselves hope of beating the drop.

Manchester United held Everton to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park too off the back of Chelsea also drawing at Bournemouth.

But which individuals were the standout performers this weekend? Starsport has the Premier League Team of the Week below.

  • Liverpool win was inspired by Tyson Fury exploits, says Watford star Troy Deeney

  • Man Utd players 'stunned' by Bruno Fernandes' quality in training after fine start

Vicente Guaita – Crystal Palace

The Eagles goalkeeper has been an unsung star this term and made a staggering eight saves against rivals Brighton to all but secure Palace’s top-flight status.

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea

The wing-back turned back the clock and netted twice at Bournemouth to earn Frank Lampard’s side a vital point.

James Tarkowski – Burnley

Sean Dyche knows he can always rely on his centre-halves to make life difficult for their opponents, and their clean sheet at Newcastle was another hard fought shut out.

Max Aarons – Norwich

His performance up and down the right flank on Friday night showed why clubs are circling for the Norwich full-back, and his assist for the winner against Leicester was decent too.

Matt Doherty – Wolves

A defender who doesn’t know the meaning of defending. Doherty lives in the opposition’s penalty area and chipped in with a goal and an assist in Wolves’ 3-2 triumph at Tottenham.

Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United

The Portuguese has settled in quicker than anyone could have expected at Old Trafford and fired home a long-range effort at Everton to earn United a point.

Pablo Fornals – West Ham

The Spaniard’s work-rate is now paying off at West Ham as he is beginning to show his creativity and flair, picking up two assists as Jarod Bowen and Michail Antonio each found the net.

Ismaila Sarr – Watford

The 22-year-old winger showed just why Watford forked out a club-record fee on him as Liverpool failed to contend with his pace and directness, scoring twice against the Reds.

Sebastien Haller – West Ham

The £45m French hitman had gone eight games without a goal, but this was one of his most confident and dominant displays yet, scoring from the tightest of angles and he even found time to pull off a stunning rabona – West Ham fans love to be entertained.

Troy Deeney – Watford

A captain’s performance as the bullish striker put the icing on the cake netting Watford’s third in their victory over Liverpool. Certainly showed some cojones on Saturday evening.

Diogo Jota – Wolves

The Portuguese forward is in the form of his life and gave Spurs’ defenders a torrid afternoon. His second half display was stunning as he scored one, should have had more and went on a mazy run before setting up strike partner Raul Jimenez for Wolves’ winner.
