Liverpool have proven to be a bogey team for Porto over the years with Tuesday night’s 5-1 demolition the latest in a long line of results. The Portuguese side have now failed to beat Liverpool in all nine fixtures between the two teams dating back to 2001.

The Reds have enjoyed huge success playing against Porto in recent years away from home as well, scoring an impressive 14 goals in their previous three games at the Estadio do Dragao.

The last time Liverpool faced off against Porto in the Champions League prior to Tuesday night’s clash was during their run to European triumph in 2019.

Porto will be hoping to end their poor run of form against the Reds when they travel to Anfield at the end of November.

Anything other than a win would extend Porto’s dire run against Liverpool to 10 games without a victory.

And that would move them just one game away from holding the joint-worst record held by any team against Liverpool.

Only two sides have a worse streak against Liverpool – neither of whom are likely to play Liverpool on a regular basis.

Scunthorpe and Walsall hold the joint-worst record against Liverpool having failed to win a single game against the Merseyside club.

DON’T MISS

Both League Two clubs have played Liverpool 11 times each with the Reds holding an unbeaten record against them.

Liverpool haven’t faced off against Walsall since 1988 when the two teams were drawn against each other in the second round of the League Cup.

The last time those two teams were competing in the same league was back in 1962 before Liverpool were promoted back to the First Division.

That same season was also the last fixture between Scunthorpe and Liverpool – 59 years ago.

Both Walsall and Scunthorpe are unlikely to face Liverpool any time soon in the league.

The two sides are currently languishing at the bottom of League Two after nine games.

That season in 1962 was also the last time Liverpool played outside of England’s top division.

And given recent years which has seen Porto drawn to face Liverpool in Europe three times since 2018, the Portuguese outfit may take over an unwanted record against the Reds.
