Peter Schmeichel says 'shocking' Man Utd player 'does not belong' in the team

Peter Schmeichel has launched a furious tirade against Manchester United players who are only at the club to ‘create a profile’, saying one ‘shocking’ player in particular should not be part of the squad.

The Red Devils have enjoyed an excellent recent run of form and are firmly in contention to claim a Champions League berth this season, though Schmeichel still feels there is plenty of work to be done with the squad.

While he is keen to see reinforcements brought in this summer, he feels offloading a number of players who do not suit the DNA that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to install is just as important.

Schmeichel did not name any player in particular, but referenced someone who wants to build ‘a brand like David Beckham’ – something The Sun claim Jesse Lingard is trying to do with his ‘JLingz’ brand.

Speaking on MUTV’s Group Chat on Tuesday, Schmeichel said: ‘I’m on record for saying this a long, long time, since Ole came, that his most important job is not really to sign players, it’s to get rid of players.

‘There’s a few players in the squad that we absolutely do not want there.

‘They’re not there to play for the badge. They’re there to create a profile for themselves.

‘I was reading about one player trying to make themself a brand like Beckham which is shocking really. But there are players there that do not belong in the dressing room.

‘And I think Ole has done really well in kind of sifting them out of the picture really, so we only get reminded that they’re there in a chat like this, or reading about the squad. I think he’s done an amazing job.’

Lingard has not played for United in the Premier League since the season restarted, not even making the bench in the side’s last three outings, though he did play against Norwich in the FA Cup.

The 27-year-old has amassed an astonishing 6.6million followers on Instagram and last year launched his own JLingz clothing label, while he also has his own fragrance and mobile phone cases.
