Olympiacos vs Man City LIVE: Team news, line-ups and more ahead of Champions League fixture tonight

Follow all the action as Manchester City face a tricky encounter in Greece against Olympiacos in the Champions League group stages.

Pep Guardiola’s side can secure their place in the knockout stages with a victory thanks to a spectacular run of form in Europe, winning all three of their matches so far and conceding just one goal in the process. Porto are second in the group, just three points adrift heading tonight’s fixture, though, so City cannot afford any slip-ups as they look to guarantee themselves of top spot.

City ran out 3-0 winners when they welcomed Olympiacos to the Etihad earlier this month, however, that scoreline was rather deceptive, with the match far from settled until the final 10 minutes. Olympiacos only have one win in the group so far, defeating Marseille in their opening fixture, and know a victory is all but essential tonight if they are to reach the knockout stages. This match will be Man City’s first away game against a Greek opponent since February 2011, when they drew 0-0 with Aris in the UEFA Europa League under Roberto Mancini.

A victory this evening would be the second time that City have won their opening four group stage games in a Champions League campaign under Pep Guardiola, having previously done so back in 2017/18.

Raheem Sterling will be eager to get on the scoresheet tonight. He has not scored for City since their last away fixture in the Champions League. That was on 27th October against Marseille.

This term Sterling has five goals in 13 games for City which is well down from the 12 in 13 he had this time last season.

With City needing just a point tonight to qualify for the next stage Sterling should have the freedom to go out and express himself.

Man City have only faced Olympiacos once in competitive football. That game was earlier this month in the Champions League group stage when they won 3-0 at the Etihad.

Ferran Torres opened the scoring that night before Gabriel Jesus and Joao Cancelo put Man City within touching distance of the knockout stages.

The sad news coming out of the footballing world tonight is that Diego Maradona has passed away following a cardiac arrest.

Man City have given one of many tributes to the Argentine legend.

Pep Guardiola makes five changes to the Man City side that lost against Tottenham at the weekend.

John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Benjamin Mendy and Raheem Sterling all return to the starting XI.

Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker are both rested with Ferran Torres, Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte dropping to the bench.

Manchester City only need to draw with Olympiacos in Athens tonight in order to reach the knockout stages after taking maximum points from their opening three games.

Also in Group C Marseille are cast adrift with no points at the bottom of te table and will be eliminated if they lose to Porto.
