Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could make a shock return to management soon after being shortlisted for the Club Brugge job.

The Belgian side are looking for a permanent replacement for Scott Parker, who was dismissed at the start of March after winning just two of his 12 games in charge, but are expected to wait until the end of the domestic season (April 23) before making an appointment.

According to The Times, Solskjaer is being considered alongside former Celtic and New York City FC boss Ronny Delia, as well as ex-Bayern Munich assistant Dino Toppmoller – who worked under recently-sacked Julian Nagelsmann.

Brugge qualified for the Champions League knockout rounds this season after emerging from a group featuring Atletico Madrid, Porto and Bayer Leverkusen, but were knocked out by Benfica in the last 16, losing 7-1 on aggregate.

Solskjaer has been out of work since losing his job at Manchester United in November 2021. He's keen to return to management, though it's understood he's turned down several opportunities to do so in the past few months.

The 50-year-old's three-year stint at Old Trafford was a bit of a mixed bag. His initial spell as caretaker boss, following Jose Mourinho's departure, was unexpectedly successful.

He inspired the team to a thrilling comeback victory over PSG in the Champions League, and after winning 14 of his first 19 matches, he was handed the job on a permanent basis. United ended the season sixth in the Premier League.

In his first full season at the helm he guided the club to a third-place finish, though they ended with the same amount of points they recorded in the previous campaign.

The following season they were runners-up behind Manchester City, but the wheels began to fall off following a difficult start to the 2021/22 season. The Norwegian was given the boot after a run of just one win in seven matches, which included a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool. He was replaced by Ralf Rangnick.
