Newcastle’s new owners are reportedly eager to recruit Harry Kane and make an Alan Shearer-like statement signing as the consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund begin to set ambitious targets for the club’s future.
The consortium, with an apparent net worth in excess of £320billion which makes Newcastle the richest club in the world, are eager to significantly strengthen the squad in the coming windows.
Part-owner Amanda Staveley has promised that the north east club will “compete for world-class players” and says that they have “great ambitions” to improve the team, who are currently battling relegation from the Premier League.
And while signings this January will be exciting additions in their own right, Eurosport claim the Magpies’ grander plans will follow in the windows and years after that.
It is suggested that England captain and Tottenham striker Kane is among the targets who would change the landscape at St James’ Park.

Newcastle’s new hierarchy are said to be keen to instal an elite-level English spine throughout the side and will look to make A-list acquisitions to suit that.
And with the Tyneside outfit having made Shearer the most expensive player in the world back in 1996, Newcastle are now dreaming of bringing in Kane.
Last year’s Premier League Golden Boot winner with 14 goals, Kane, who also registered the most assists in the division with 14, would be as bold an addition as Shearer was 25 years ago.
They think recruiting the 28-year-old, who publicly sought a move to Manchester City which never arose last summer, would transform the expectation levels at the club.

They are keeping an eye on proceedings with the Spurs striker still under contract in north London until 2024 and valued at over £150m.
Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, Kane’s England team-mate, is also mentioned by Eurosport as a player who could be talked about by Newcastle chiefs.
The Magpies want to set a new standard in their goal to be competing for the Premier League and the Champions League in the future.
Kane would help do just that having scored 166 goals in 248 games in England’s top flight. Only Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Andy Cole, Sergio Aguero, Frank Lampard and Thierry Henry have scored more.

Kane is 94 away from levelling Shearer’s achievement and could surpass second-placed Rooney in the next few seasons, with the ex-Everton and Manchester United attacker currently 42 ahead.
As well as going up a level in terms of their player recruitment, Newcastle are also expected to appoint a new manager in the near future.
Steve Bruce has yet to be sacked and could still be in the dugout for Sunday’s visit of Tottenham but it is expected the 60-year-old will be axed soon.
Assistant manager Graeme Jones will stand in once Bruce, who met with Staveley on Monday, is removed from his option with a whole host of managers linked with the job.
Brendan Rodgers, Lucien Favre, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Eddie Howe and Roberto Martinez are among those mentioned in connection with the soon-to-be-vacant role.
