Newcastle boss Eddie Howe wants to see some new recruits come through the door next month and Ousmane Dembele may be the biggest signing of the lot. Kieran Trippier is expected to be the first signing under Newcastle’s new ownership with a deal potentially being completed by next week.

Bolstering their options in defence is said to be a priority with Nathan Ake also being linked with a move.

But there has been a worrying lack of goals on Tyneside this season which has also seen them drop into the relegation zone.

They’ve scored just 19 goals in as many league games this campaign with Callum Wilson accounting for roughly a third of that figure despite starting just 14 games.

Now there is growing concern that Wilson will be out for a prolonged period of time once again after picking up an injury against Manchester United.

Early reports have suggested that Wilson could be out for several months with a calf injury.

In his absence earlier this season, Newcastle opted to use Allan Saint-Maximin through the middle.

But the Frenchman also hobbled off in the 1-1 draw against Ralf Rangnick’s side earlier this week.

Now short of options up front, Howe wants to see Newcastle use the January transfer market to bring in extra firepower.

DON’T MISS

A host of big names have been linked with a move to St James’ Park, but Dembele appears to be their top target.

And, according to SportItalia, Newcastle have already sent a ‘massive’ offer to Dembele.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season with Barcelona currently trying to negotiate a new deal before the January transfer window opens.

Talks have seemingly stalled once again though with Barcelona reluctant to meet Dembele’s demands.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Dembele’s preference would be to stay in Barcelona, but Newcastle are seemingly pushing hard to change his mind.

When Barcelona signed Dembele back in 2017, he was being tipped as one of the brightest prospects in world football.

Injuries over the past few years have curtailed his progress and Dembele has struggled to build up any rhythm or top form in recent years.

But he remains highly rated by coaches who have worked with him and Newcastle clearly believe that Dembele can deliver on the big stage.
