Mikel Arteta looks to Jurgen Klopp for inspiration during Arsenal rebuild

Mikel Arteta has hailed Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool for laying out the blueprint on the kind of rebuilding job he wants to do at Arsenal.

But the Gunners boss knows it won’t be as simple as a cut-and-paste of the ways Klopp has built success at the Reds, who became Premier League champions on Thursday night.

“ Liverpool is a great example to see that it is possible,” said Arteta. “But it takes a lot of work and a lot of the right decisions from everyone.

“First of all, you need belief in what you are doing and then see that you are all aligned in that belief.

“From there you start to make right decisions, in terms of recruitment, to get a coach who identifies the philosophy that is needed for that football club, who the fans believe in.

“And then you need players who are 100 per cent committed to that manager, to that football club, to give their best all the time, it does not matter what.”

Arteta has been particularly impressed with the way Klopp and his board have gone about identifying the perfect signings for their project.

The Gunners coach added: “You must ask what type of personality are you signing? Does he fit your club culture?

“After that, quality-wise, positions, what is needed? Slowly you start to catch up and start to get better. The table shows how far away we are right now.

“But when you start to make improvements and generate belief – and have the fans and history we have – you can do anything. I have a strong belief in that.”
