McCoist mocks Shearer for knowing exactly what he would say about David De Gea

Ally McCoist has brutally mocked Alan Shearer by predicting exactly how he would react to Manchester United 'keeper David De Gea's first-half howler.

The Red Devils' no.1 came under intense scrutiny by Shearer for his 'weak' goalkeeping as Mikel Arteta's side took the lead at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

With the score tied at 0-0, a stamp on De Gea's foot saw him fall to the floor, claiming a foul.

Though referee Martin Atkinson did not blow his whistle and awkward scenes followed when Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe rifled the ball into an empty net.

Atkinson was hesitant to award the goal but was left with no choice when replays showed it was United teammate Fred who had allegedly fouled the Spaniard.

Working as a pundit on Amazon Prime, Premier League record goalscorer Shearer slated De Gea for his 'weak' goalkeeping claiming the United star should have done his job and stayed on his feet.

And when returning for second-half coverage, co-commentator Ally McCoist hilariously mocked his colleague stating he knew exactly what Shearer's half-time comments were going to be.

He said: "Just for the record Peter [Drury], I had money on Shearer saying that the keeper should have got up earlier. I won that bet!"

Drury replied: "He is ruthless, isn't he!"

In an enthralling encounter, United ended Michael Carrick's brief spell as stand-in manager with 3-2 win, maintaining their unbeaten run under the Englishman.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick will now take charge of proceedings after his ongoing visa issues were finally sorted on Thursday morning.

The German watched from the stands as the Red Devils came from 1-0 down to claim all three points against the Gunners and will make his first outing in the dugout on Sunday against Crystal Palace.
