Martial’s fresh injury leads Man Utd boss Solskjaer into admission

Anthony Martial suffered a muscle injury in training on Wednesday.

As such, he was duly left out of the Manchester United squad for the Europa League clash with Club Brugge on Thursday night.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that he is unsure when precisely the United No.9 will return to action.

The Frenchman has been in excellent form recently, scoring three times in his last three games. That included the equaliser in Belgium in the first leg of the last 32 showdown last week.

He had been expected to lead the line for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men at Old Trafford once more in the second leg, with the tie in the balance.

However, Martial felt discomfort in training and, having been assessed by club medical staff, was left out of the squad. Odion Ighalo instead led the attack, in a side featuring seven changes from the 3-0 win over Watford at the weekend.

Solskjaer told MUTV after his arrival at Old Trafford on Thursday night: "He [Martial] didn't feel right after training yesterday. He walked off. He's injured.

"Hopefully it won't be too bad. I don't know how long it will be."

United face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday at Goodison Park and Martial is classed as doubtful.

His injury puts yet more strain on a United side who are missing fellow striker Marcus Rashford with a back problem and record signing midfielder Paul Pogba with an ankle injury.

Martial, 24, has scored 15 goals in all competitions this term, from 31 games.

His best season for United was his debut campaign at the club, when he notched 17 in 49.

But Solskjaer believes that the Frenchman is capable of hitting the 25-goal mark in future, and is intently working with his No.9 to hit new heights.
