Pogba’s extended layoff has come amid intense speculation that he will leave Old Trafford for a second time in the summer, four years after returning from Juventus in a then world record £89million move.
Juventus and Real Madrid are among Pogba’s admirers but Solskjaer hopes to have him back for the final stages of the season after it was confirmed that Pogba will rejoin the rest of the squad next week.
It may still be some time before he will be available for selection.
‘Paul is still working with the physios outside and he won’t be training with the first team until next week,’ said Solskjaer.
‘Then let’s see how long that will take. He needs time to get his football fitness back.’
Daniel James is set to be missing again when United visit Derby in the FA Cup fifth round on Thursday, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also a doubt after picking up a back injury against Everton at the weekend.

Red Devils right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka may also sit out the cup clash due to a back injury
‘He (James) will probably miss out on this one as well,’ added Solskjaer. ‘Marcus (Rashford) and Paul still out and I think Aaron might be struggling. He will have a test but he struggled in our last game against Everton with his back, so he might be out.’
Sergio Romero is likely to play in goal, although Solskjaer was keen to stress that it would be no reflection on David de Gea’s performance at Everton when he gifted a goal to Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a 1-1 draw.
‘It’s not a given of course, but Sergio has done well in the games he’s played definitely,’ said Solskjaer.
‘I have no qualms about playing David in every game, to be fair. What he’s done and his performances have been great.’
