Manchester United host Paris Saint-Germain as group H in the Champions League nears a conclusion.
Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side just a point away from clinching a last 16 berth, there are only three points separating the Red Devils from both PSG and RB Leipzig. Edinson Cavani will hope to feature against his former team, having joined United on a free transfer after being released by the Ligue 1 champions, and the Uruguayan is in fine form after his brace earned victory against Southampton last weekend.
Thomas Tuchel has admitted Marcus Rashford’s recent record against the Ligue 1 side is beginning to get “annoying”: “We value him very much when he plays in England and not Parc des Princes, honestly, because (him scoring against us) gets a little bit annoying”. 26’ – Man United 0-1 PSG
Back to the actual action. McTominay heads at goal after a corner but Keylor makes an easy save again. United not creating much in open play and Cavani hasn’t got himself involved yet.
Tuchel is not impressed that Fred didn’t see red.
22’ – Man United 0-1 PSG
Yellow card for Fred…and he is a very, very lucky guy. He seems to have the yellow for a foul, but he definitely moved his head into Verratti’s and the ref went to check the VAR monitor, before deciding it wasn’t a red card offence. Strange one.
18’ – Man United 0-1 PSG
Rashford and Fernandes link up outside the box and the striker curls a low effort at goal, but it’s an easy save for Keylor. Mbappe then leads a counter-attack which ends in a blocked shot from Verratti and a looped overhead kick from Neymar, which is saved by De Gea.
14’ – Man United 0-1 PSG
Florenzi tests De Gea and the keeper is forced into a save. United can’t keep hold of the ball in midfield so far. Another Florenzi cross then almost finds Neymar unmarked in the six-yard box, but he can’t quite reach the ball on the stretch.
10’ – Man United 0-1 PSG
All on nine points now, the top three. On head-to-head…-to-head, I suppose, it’s Leipzig who are third and headed out – making it even bigger next week when they host United.
Long way to go yet though.
GOAL! 6’ – Man United 0-1 PSG
Great start for the French champions! Mbappe’s shot is deflected into the path of Neymar and he hammers the ball past De Gea on a narrow angle – first blood to the Ligue 1 side.
2’ – Man United 0-0 PSG
Two minutes in and both Verratti and Neymar have taken knocks. Fred did the first, nobody really appeared to do the latter.
We are off and running! Fascinating game in store.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Owen Hargreaves has had a chat with Thomas Tuchel ahead of kick-off.
“He knows United will sit deep and play on the counter. PSG want to dominate possession but don’t come here in their best phase.”
