Manchester United remain open to making more signings before the close of the transfer window. Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane have all moved to Old Trafford so far. And Ruben Neves could be next, with the Portugal international still being linked with a move to Old Trafford.
United are currently well-stocked in the middle of the park.
But that hasn’t stopped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from eyeing Neves as he seeks an upgrade on the likes of Fred, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay.
The Wolves star has been a consistent performer during his time at Molineux, helping them win the Championship and later consolidate their position in the Premier League.
Yet while United want another arrival, it isn’t guaranteed.
That’s because the Red Devils have spent the majority of their transfer budget so far on the deals for Varane and Sancho, who arrived from Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
Any more transfer deals will have to be dependent on outgoings instead.

And four players are linked to their pursuit of Neves as a result, with the club open to jettisoning them before the transfer window shuts.
They’d like to get Phil Jones off the wage bill, even if there have been claims Solskjaer is open to giving the former Blackburn star a lifeline.
Yet the fact he earns £100,000-a-week is a problem when it comes to finding potential buyers.
And, so far, United are yet to receive a single offer for the former England international.
In an ideal world, they’d have sold Andreas Pereira permanently with the Brazil international long deemed surplus to requirements.

But he’s another who has held up their chase of Neves, with Flamengo only taking him on loan instead.
The Red Devils are still willing to let Jesse Lingard go should his valuation be met, despite Solskjaer publicly insisting he wants the playmaker to stay.
But without a fee in the region of £30million, that won’t happen.
And they’ve also not received any bids for Alex Telles, either.
They’re inclined to let the Brazil international go after he struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League last term.
Yet their plans to loan Brandon Williams to Norwich suggests they now think they’ll have Telles at their disposal by the end of the window.
As things stand, no outgoings – barring Williams’ loan exit – are expected to happen.
And that means United may struggle to get a deal for Neves over the line by the time August 31 rolls around.
Wolves boss Bruno Lage was recently asked about the 24-year-old’s future.
And though he admitted he’d like Neves to stay, he did suggest every player has a price.
“All the top players we have are linked with all the clubs in the world,” he said.
“If you go to Portugal, the top players at Benfica are all linked with moves to Wolves.
“Ruben is happy here and we are happy with him. We are not thinking to let anyone leave, but every player has a price.
“You never know, if Messi changes to PSG then anyone can go.”
