Manchester United flop Paul Pogba has agreed to join Juventus on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old Frenchman is set to re-join his former club six years after leaving for Old Trafford. Pogba's Red Devils contract ran down to the point where he was allowed to leave at the end of the season as a free agent.

That means the Serie A giants will get their hands on the World Cup-winning playmaker without having to pay a transfer fee, having sold him for a whopping £89million in the summer of 2016.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Thursday (June 23) evening: "Paul Pogba to Juventus, confirmed and here we go! Full agreement now completed on a free transfer. Deal to be signed at the beginning of July, it's done and sealed #Juve.

"Pogba will be in Italy in two weeks. Juve sold him for €100m six years ago – now he's back for free."

Pogba leaves United with both fans and critics feeling unsatisfied at how his Old Trafford career played out. The Frenchman arrived with huge promise backed up by a hefty transfer fee, but largely failed to meet expectations.

That was partly due to Pogba's inconsistency on the pitch, as well as his strained relationship with United's various managers off it. On the other hand, the club failed to build a team around his playing style and were rarely in a position to challenge for titles.

He leaves the club with just a Europa League and an EFL Cup to his name, along with 39 goals across 226 appearances. Pogba will look to add to his already impressive four Serie A titles upon his return to Turin.
