Manchester United have been urged to sign Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham to replace the dead wood in their squad. The teenager has starred for the German outfit since moving for £25million from Birmingham in July 2020, a deal that made him the most expensive player aged 17 in history.

The central midfielder has progressed rapidly since making his debut as a 16-year-old for his boyhood club in the Championship, becoming their youngest-ever player.

An elegant, confident player on the ball, Bellingham’s remarkable composure has allowed him to slot seamlessly into Dortmund’s side without a hitch.

The highly-rated teenager has already racked up 67 appearances for Die Schwarzgelben, scoring seven goals and creating 12 assists.

Bellingham snubbed interest from the Premier League in order to seal a move to the Bundesliga outfit, the club Jadon Sancho also joined at the age of 17 from Manchester City.

He has been tipped to follow former team-mate Sancho from Signal Iduna Park back to the Premier League in the near future.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are all understood to be monitoring his situation, with Ralf Rangnick reportedly identifying him as a January transfer window target.

And former midfielder Steve McManaman, now 49 and working as a pundit for BT Sport, believes the Red Devils have the most urgent need to sign him.

“I think United need a centre midfielder of that ilk,’ McManaman told, referring to Bellingham’s style of play.

“Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata are coming to the end of their careers and Paul Pogba may leave.

Man Utd’s stance on signing Barcelona star De Jong

“So if there’s one team that needs a player like Jude Bellingham, it’s Manchester United.”

Despite his tender age, Bellingham is already a senior England international with 10 caps to his name and he impressed at Euro 2020 in cameos from the bench.

And whole McManaman has seen enough to hail the former Birmingham trainee as a “superstar” for the future, he doubts whether Liverpool need him.

“He [Bellingham] has got all the attributes to be a superstar,” he added.

“When you look through the teams and the sides that could buy him – Manchester United would need that type of player as a central midfielder.

“Manchester City, with Rodri, Ilkay Gündogan, Bernardo Silva, not so much.”

“Liverpool have got Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Fabinho,” he added.

“Of course it would be a great signing, he’s a great player, but whether Liverpool need him now is another thing.

“Henderson is moving towards the end of his career. James Milner also. So Liverpool could always take another centre midfielder but it’s very congested in there.’

“Georginio Wijnaldum left the club in the summer and people said they needed to replace him but they didn’t.

“But whether people move on and Jürgen brings Jude in is another thing.

“City could accommodate him but they’ve got a plethora of great players in there and he mightn’t play.”
