Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is wanted by Barcelona, according to reports in Spain. The La Liga giants are on the lookout for a new forward to replace Sergio Aguero, who has been forced to retire due to a heart condition. Past claims certainly suggest a move to the Nou Camp is possible, too.

Manchester United were without Rashford for the early weeks of the season, with the England international getting shoulder surgery.

He initially flourished upon returning to the team, however, scoring three goals in his first four appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But in recent times, Rashford has struggled.

The 24-year-old has now gone eight matches without a goal, suffering under both Solskjaer and the Norwegian’s successor, Ralf Rangnick.

Now, Mundo Deportivo have claimed the forward is on Barcelona’s radar as they look to sign a replacement for Aguero.

In recent months, the Catalan giants have been linked with other United forwards Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial.

Cavani has struggled to kick on this term, scoring just once, and isn’t guaranteed a regular spot in Rangnick’s attack due to the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Martial, meanwhile, has been off the boil for 18 months – and inconsistent at Old Trafford ever since his arrival from Monaco in 2015.

Rashford is now seemingly on Barcelona’s shortlist as they seek a way to turn their turbulent La Liga campaign around.

It’s hard to see the forward, a United man through and through, leaving Old Trafford despite his current issues.

But past claims suggest a move to Barcelona could yet happen.

In June 2020, Mundo claimed that Rashford had actually agreed to join Barcelona in 2018 – at a time where he was playing under Jose Mourinho.

It was stated that Rashford had put himself in their orbit after a serious of impressive performances in difficult circumstances.

After Barcelona approached his representatives, the England international was apparently excited about joining them.

And the publication even went as far to state he’d ‘agreed’ a move to Barcelona, with Mourinho failing to get the best out of him on a regular basis.

However, in the end, Rashford decided to stick rather than twist.

It was stated the United star didn’t feel ready for the challenge of joining a new team and changing his lifestyle.

And he ended up signing a new contract with United instead.

Meanwhile, Rashford disappointed in United’s last match – a narrow 1-0 victory over Norwich City last weekend.

Speaking after the match at Carrow Road, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp hit out at the forward as well as Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Ronaldo for their performances.

“They’ve been so wasteful,” he said on TV.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a game where so many United players have given the ball away as much as they have.

“Rashford keeps dribbling with it, loses it, then is walking back.

“It’s been the same with Fernandes it’s been the same with Ronaldo giving the ball away you’ve got to protect it you’ve got to look after it.

“These moments have been fleeting, they’ve not really shown any quality and I think especially when they rested so many players in midweek I just wanted to see more from Man United.”
