Man Utd ‘on the offensive’ as Ten Hag tries to seal third Napoli deal

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reviews the Aston Villa game

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to step up their interest and be “offensive” in their pursuit of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, who could be the third addition from the Serie A champions this summer. Luciano Spalletti’s outfit have been one of the most impressive teams in Europe this season, having recently claimed their first title in over 30 years and also reached the Champions League quarter-finals.

Napoli have been spearheaded by Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, while Min-jae as been the bedrock of the Italian side’s defence. United will not be the only team with a strong interest in several of their stars this summer, but are said to have begun their attempts to raid the Italian champions.

Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) have claimed that an “offensive” is now underway as United are ready to spend £53million for the South Korean centre-back, as Napoli will negotiate a deal if United do come knocking. The report states that while there is currently no direct communication between United and Napoli, a deal could be done quickly.

United are currently waiting for a response from Napoli to discover how highly they value the 26-year-old, as they could make considerable profit after paying just £16m a year ago to sign Min-jae from Galatasaray.

If United and Napoli can come to an agreement taking Min-jae to Old Trafford, there is a chance that he may be reunited with some familiar faces. Osimhen is one of the most sought-after talents on the market this summer, as United are set to be one of the teams battling for his signature.

Erik ten Hag’s outfit, in addition to Chelsea and Bayern Munich, are all on the lookout for a marquee striker this summer, with Osimhen, Harry Kane and Randal Kolo Muani said to be the three names mentioned with potential transfers to Old Trafford.

A third Napoli figure could also be set to move to United as the club’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has been the subject of an enquiry, as per Tuttomercato. He has been credited with the signings of Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia and Min-jae and if he was to move to the Premier League and work with Ten Hag – it would surely give United an advantage over their rivals in the hopes of raiding Napoli this summer.

The 51-year-old has one year left on his contract at Napoli and is said to be interested in a move to England, though any potential role at United would likely be dependent on the ownership situation.

There is a chance that if either Sheikh Jassim of Qatar or Sir Jim Ratcliffe are successful in purchasing the club from the Glazers, they would have their own sporting director in place instead of Giuntoli.
