The European club campaign has only just ended, but Manchester United fans are already hoping Paul Pogba will use his summer to tempt Real Madrid star Raphael Varane into joining him at Old Trafford.
Both players will form part of Didier Deschamps’ France squad at Euro 2020, with each at the centre of speculation as they enter the final year of their respective contracts.
Signing a new centre-back remains a chief priority for many United fans, particularly after the club lost to Villarreal in the Europa League final when captain Harry Maguire missed out due to an ankle injury.
Varane, 28, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, and speculation picked up after he posted a photo on Instagram alongside compatriot Pogba:
Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann also featured in the post, which was captioned simply: “Squad.”
Pogba, also 28, is alleged to have previously had an effect in helping United with their recruitment efforts.
It was during the summer of 2017 that the World Cup winner vacationed with Romelu Lukaku in Los Angeles, shortly before the latter’s signing from Everton was confirmed.
United supporters are hoping his time alongside Varane this summer will lead to the same end product. One user commented: “Agent Paul Pogba at the work.”
Among those wishing the French giants success this summer, another said: “Man United bound.”
Many drew the same parallels ahead of the transfer window, with one replying: “Varane to Old Trafford.”
The Manchester Evening News reported earlier in May that United have already reached out to Varane’s representatives enquiring about a deal, although Liverpool are also said to be in contact.
Real president Florentino Perez would reportedly prefer to sell Varane rather than risk losing him for free next year.
The Spanish giants are in search of a new manager after Zinedine Zidane left Real a second time this summer, writing an open letter to fans that hinted at his dissatisfactory relationship with Perez.
Los Blancos will sign David Alaba when the Austrian’s Bayern Munich deal expires this summer, and Varane could be sold if he fails to agree a contract extension after a decade in Madrid.
The four-time Champions League winner was said to be on United’s radar when he left Lens for Spain in 2011.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to make further squad improvements after finishing second in the Premier League and Europa League this past season.

Varane was quick to distance himself from transfer rumours ahead of Euro 2020, however, and said: "This is not the time to talk about my future, I am focused on the selection, on this Euro, it is normal and logical to ask the question and for my part it is normal and logical to focus on the upcoming deadlines.
“We are all human beings. We can think about it. As for my personal case, I am focused on the objectives that we have in the France team, it is not a subject that I will discuss every day in my room at Clairefontaine.
“I am focused on my goal, and now is not the time to discuss it. If I have to talk about it, it will be directly with the people concerned.”
