Man Utd fans left in turmoil with Liverpool and Leeds bound for league titles

Manchester United fans have had it tough since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

They have endured personal torment with the initial dip under David Moyes, dull football with Louis van Gaal and true mediocrity at times under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Additionally, seeing neighbours Manchester City dominate English football with Pep Guardiola at the helm in recent years has made matters worse.

And Liverpool’s Champions League triumph was hard to take last summer too.

But the thought of both the Reds and rivals Leeds United each winning league titles in the same campaign is unbearable for Red Devils followers.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have arguably their best chance since relegation in 2004 of returning to the top flight.

A 2-0 victory over Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield has fans believing once again at Elland Road that the Premier League is touching distance away.

Leeds leapfrogged West Brom on Saturday to go top of the Championship, seven points clear of Fulham in third, with just nine games to go.

Their favourable run in makes promotion look very likely, let alone clinching the Championship trophy too.

Liverpool, meanwhile, moved a massive 25 points clear of City by beating Bournemouth 2-1 at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s team have nine matches left as well, and they are only three wins away from guaranteeing their first ever Premier League title.

The pain for United fans would be unmeasurable this summer, and fans took to Twitter to vent their torment after Saturday’s results.

One United fan moaned: “So we could see Leeds back next season – it's bad enough with City, Liverpool and Arsenal to deal with FFS”.

Another posted a GIF of Will Smith teary eyed from the film ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ and captioned it: “Liverpool top of the league and Leeds top of the championship #MUFC”.

A third ranted: “Liverpool will win the league, Leeds will probably win the Championship, Man City might win the Champions League and we’re 6th with a braindead manager who’s only there cos he scored in a Champions League final one time. 2019/20 a season to remember”.

One tweeted: “Leeds winning the league/ getting promoted. Liverpool winning the league. The worst season ever. The two teams I hate”.

“Leeds and Liverpool are winning the league while our fanbase is celebrating a victory over Derby,” another posted.

United’s weekend could get even worse if neighbours City beat them at Old Trafford (4.30pm).

Solskjaer’s team sits seventh going into the derby, having seen Wolves and Sheffield United move above them on Saturday.

A victory for the Champions League-chasing Red Devils, however, could see them climb as high as fourth if Chelsea lose to Everton on Sunday too (2pm).
