Man Utd fans in disbelief as Paul Pogba misses "sitter" in opening Leeds half

Paul Pogba missed a glorious chance to break the deadlock in Manchester United's clash with Leeds on Saturday, leaving the Red Devils faithful in disbelief.

United are taking on Marcelo Bielsa's side in their opening 2021/22 Premier League fixture at Old Trafford, with Bruno Fernandes' strike on the half-hour mark giving them a one-goal lead.

It was Pogba who came closest to opening the scoring beforehand, nevertheless, somehow squandering a superb opportunity from close range in the 12th minute.

Mason Greenwood surged through the Leeds midfield and released the Frenchman through on goal, leaving him with only Whites goalkeeper Illan Meslier to beat.

However, to the dismay of United fans inside Old Trafford and on social media, Pogba first produced a step-over to fool Meslier before sending his effort wide of the post.

It was a shocking miss, and Red Devils supporters quickly took to Twitter to lambast their £89million midfielder for not tucking it home.

One asked: "How does Paul Pogba miss that sitter?"

Another said: "Should have been the first goal of the season. Poor miss from Pogba".

A fourth laughed: "Pogba that’s harder to miss than score hahahahaa jesus man".

While one quipped: "I was celebrating that Pogba goal for a good 5 seconds before I realised it didn't go in."

Pogba made up for that howler by producing a sublime assist for United's opener 18 minutes later.

Scott McTominay first picked out the midfielder, who dinked the ball into the path of Fernandes and allowed him to convert past Meslier.

United fans were pleased to see him make up for his earlier error, with one posting: "You love to see it!!! An assist from Pogba, making up for his earlier miss."

While another said: "You remove Pogba’s goal miss and he’s been very good in the game so far".
