Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted he may not buy a new centre-back to partner Harry Maguire amid rumours he could move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
United looked fragile at the back during their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season.
It was thought the Red Devils were looking at strengthening their back line with a move for Upamecano.
Porto left-back Alex Telles has also been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford to provide competition for Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams.
But Solskjaer claims Eric Bailly’s return to fitness means he is happy with his defence.
“I think last season proved to us how we can defend at our best,” Solskjaer said when asked if he was trying to sign a new centre-back.
“Last weekend wasn’t fantastic, we conceded sloppy goals, but I think our defensive record from last season was good with Eric and Harry, and how good a partnership they were.
“Eric is fit again, which is a big, big plus, and we’re looking forward to seeing him develop and play more games.
“We’ve been waiting him to be fit and play more regularly.”
