Manchester United have a hectic summer transfer window ahead of them, with Ed Woodward having the chance to adhere himself to Red Devils fans by signing them three new players. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has eight certain names on the team sheet, but is after improvements in three key positions. Here, Express Sport has taken a look at the positions United need to fill in their team.
Goalkeeper – Dean Henderson
United could well look to buy a new back-up goalkeeper, but that will depend on David de Gea’s future.
It seems Henderson is Solskjaer’s first-choice from now on, and it seems incredibly unlikely that a new goalkeeper will come in this summer.
Right-back – Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Wan-Bissaka is one of United’s most relied-upon players, and has consistently performed throughout the season.
United want a back-up, but could save some money by moving Brandon Williams over from left-back.
Left centre-back – available
United want a new centre-back to partner Maguire and are eager to bring someone in this summer.
Raphael Varane and Jules Kounde have both been linked, as has Sergio Ramos.
Left-back – Luke Shaw
Shaw is a contender for United’s player of the year, having proven himself as one of Solskjaer’s most reliable players.
Despite the arrival of Alex Telles last year, Shaw has remained a constant in the United side.
Right centre-midfield – Scott McTominay
McTominay could go on to become a club legend at Old Trafford, and is considered one of their most important players.
His defensive workmate is crucial to the way Solskjaer sets his side up.
Left centre-midfield – available
United want to sign Declan Rice this summer, though it seems unlikely they’ll move onto any other targets if they fail to sign the West Ham star.
While Solskjaer wants a replacement for Fred, it seems unlikely he’ll push too hard for that position to be improved.
Left wing – Paul Pogba
United’s record signing Pogba has rediscovered his best form while playing as a left winger.
United also have Marcus Rashford available in that position, and it seems the left wing isn’t a priority by any means.
Central attacking midfield – Bruno Fernandes
United’s undroppable, Fernandes is widely regarded as United’s key player.
Everything goes through the Portuguese ace, and he’s successfully held down his role despite the arrival of Donny van de Beek.
Right wing – Mason Greenwood
United tried desperately to sign Jadon Sancho last summer, but it seems Greenwood is successfully holding down the position.
The youngster seems destined to play through the middle in the future, but for now he’s got a home at right wing.
Striker – available
United are eager to sign a new striker this summer, with Erling Haaland at the top of their shortlist.
Edinson Cavani will likely depart, and there are questions over Anthony Martial’s ability to lead the team towards a title challenge.
