Jose Mourinho has been monitoring the situation of a Manchester United star for some time, but a January exit has been blocked by new boss Ralf Rangnick despite an ‘agreement’ being in place.

Ralf Rangnick appears to have thwarted former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho by blocking a proposed January move.

Rangnick became United’s new interim boss following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the heavily respected German is still finding out what he believes to be his best side.

The 63-year-old who is well renowned for founding the gegenpress has already opted for a formation change, and roles have been altered within the United starting eleven.

And it’s because of this that a potential move that Mourinho believed to be agreed has now fallen through, as Rangnick takes control of proceedings.

It’s been a good start to life for Rangnick so far, as the new United boss has won both of his opening Premier League games, and got to experiment with his side in the Champions League due to already qualifying as group winners.

Through experimenting and taking charge for a number of weeks now, one major change within the side has been the introduction of Diogo Dalot, who has landed a starting role over Aaron Wan Bissaka.

This change will come as a major disappointment to Mourinho, who reportedly wanted to reunite with the full-back at Roma.

Until Rangnick arrived, Wan Bissaka was the first choice and Dalot was very much on the fringes, despite heavily impressing while on loan at AC Milan.

Mourinho wanted to bring him back to Serie A, and work with the Portuguese star once again after previously doing so during his stint at United.

According to a report from Calcio Mercato, Roma had an ‘agreement in principle’ for a move after Mourinho requested that Roma director Tiago Pinto got in touch with Dalot’s agent.

However, that agreement has now been disregarded as Rangnick has taken charge and promoted Dalot to his first choice right-back, leaving Mourinho frustrated.

The right-back position is said to be a priority for Mourinho in the upcoming transfer window, but it appears that the Roma boss must now turn his attention elsewhere.

The reports that Dalot is Rangnick’s new no.1 right-back have also been supported by Portuguese publication O Jogo, who have revealed that the United boss has ‘blocked’ any exit in January for the 22-year-old.

Dalot was signed by United back in 2018 for £19million as he arrived for Portuguese giants Porto, and the defender was loaned to Milan for the 2020/21 season after being used sporadically within the United first-team.

It was here where Dalot really started to shine, and the Portuguese star made 21 Serie A appearances at right-back that season.

Dalot has returned and is now the first-choice over Wan Bissaka, who joined United in 2019 and became the clubs instant first choice, until this season.
