Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly upset a host of Red Devils players over his reluctance to rotate the squad. When under the cosh in recent weeks, the Norwegian has tended to stick with his tried and trusted inner circle, despite performances leaving plenty to be desired.

Having suffered a torrid run of results, the same United figures have been trusted to turn things around over the past few matches.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo have vindicated that decision in his case, with crucial goals against Atalanta and Tottenham, but a hoard of stars waiting on the bench are reportedly frustrated that they have not been given a chance.

Old Trafford erupted into song when Donny van de Beek was sent to warm up against Manchester City, which is a sign of how rarely he has been used.

According to ESPN, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot, Juan Mata and Alex Telles are also angered about their lack of game time.

That much is understandable, given the report also states that Solskjaer had ‘promised’ them greater opportunities ahead of this campaign.

Shockingly, Van de Beek has featured in just 16 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Meanwhile, Mata has started a single game, and that was in a Carabao Cup defeat at West Ham.

The likes of Van de Beek and Lingard flirted with the idea of moving away during the summer, and may now be regretting their decision to stick around.

The dressing room is not the only source of pressure for Solskjaer, with the board reportedly split on the issue of whether he should be sacked.

Prestigious names like Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane have been mentioned since their damaging defeat against City, although no concrete moves have been made as yet.

As we sit in the depths of the international break and the resumption of domestic action draws closer, it appears as though the Norwegian will be given another chance to turn things around.

A date with Watford awaits, and United can make no excuses given that their opponents have lost three of their four matches since Claudio Ranieri took charge.

Whether Solskjaer will take the plunge and put faith in the Red Devils’ peripheral figures remains to be seen.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, however, the hoard of unhappy campers could suddenly leave the club short-staffed.

Lingard was linked with West Ham this summer, and Newcastle are believed to be monitoring the silky midfielder too.

Despite struggling to make an impact in United’s stacked squad, the other six stars angered by Solskjaer would also be sure to find opportunities elsewhere, unless their minds can be changed over the next few weeks.
