Manchester United and Chelsea have been dealt a blow after Erling Haaland reportedly settled on the two clubs he would prefer to join this summer. The Borussia Dortmund striker is set to be involved in the biggest saga of the transfer window with many of Europe’s top clubs interested in his signature.

Haaland has become one of Europe’s hottest properties after scoring 33 goals in 34 games for Dortmund so far this campaign, despite Edin Terzić’s side suffering a disappointing season.

Though the release clause in the Norwegian’s contract does not activate until next summer, it widely expected that he will depart Signal Iduna Park at the end of this season.

In fact, Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, has already begun talks with prospective clubs, with the Dutchman flying out to Spain to meet with Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent weeks.

United, Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in signing Haaland, with all three Premier League clubs set to prioritise a new striker in the summer.

But the Red Devils and the Blues have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of the striker, which could see them forced to set their sights on other targets.

That blow comes from Sport1, who report that Haaland has set his sights on joining Madrid or City this summer.

Also harming United and Chelsea’s chances of bringing in the Norwegian hitman is his exorbitant expected wages.

The Mirror reported that Raiola wants to make the striker the first ever footballer to earn wages of £1million a week at a new club.

The only clubs apparently capable of affording such a salary would be City, Real and Paris Saint-Germain.

Sport1 also claim that an additional bonus of £20m should be added into those wages as a bonus for Raiola and Haaland’s father Alf-Inge.

It would be a major disappointment to United if they did miss out on Haaland, with the club making a new striker one of their top priorities.

With Edinson Cavani reportedly edging closer to a departure after just one season at Old Trafford, a goal scorer such as Haaland will be required if United are to challenge for the Premier League title.

Though Chelsea do possess a striker with such potential in Timo Werner, the German has struggled to find the back of the net for the Blues this season.

That has prompted manager Thomas Tuchel to instead deploy Kai Havertz in a false nine position, though the Blues are still believed to be targeting a forward.

Despite Haaland reportedly setting his sights on City, the club themselves do not appear to be as keen to do a deal, even though Sergio Aguero is leaving the Etihad at the end of the season.

Manager Pep Guardiola recently claimed that with Dortmund reportedly demanding a fee in the region of £150m, City will not be contemplating a move.
