Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Robert Lewandowski despite Pep Guardiola’s comments to the contrary. Lewandowski is reportedly keen on a new challenge away from Bayern Munich. Guardiola managed the Poland international during his three years in charge at Bayern.
City are in the market for a striker but have failed in their pursuit of Harry Kane after the Tottenham star announced he won’t be leaving in this window.
Following the reports that Lewandowski wants out of Bayern, Guardiola insisted he wanted the 33-year-old to stay with the Bundesliga club.
“Next question,” Guardiola said at a press conference last week.
“Lewy is such an important player for Bayern Munich and he will stay at Bayern Munich.

“I am not going to talk with 11 days left about the transfer market.”
However, speaking on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast, Ian McGarry says City are indeed interested in Lewandowski.
Guardiola remains ‘determined’ to sign a striker and City are exploring the possibility of a deal.
“Robert Lewandowski’s decision that he wants to seek a new challenge in football has interested Manchester City,” McGarry said.

“Guardiola did say that he expected him to finish his career at Bayern Munich, but then he said that about Messi and Barcelona as well and look what happened there.
“There’s still, even with people close to the deal, the expectation that Lewandowski is hopeful that the leverage of him wanting to leave will lead Bayern to offer him a lucrative contract extension.
“However, Manchester City are exploring the possibility and the option of Lewandowski because Guardiola is determined to recruit a proven goalscorer, and someone who will give them an edge in terms of a point striker rather than depending on false nines or Gabriel Jesus to lead the line for City this season.”
This comes after England captain Kane confirmed on Wednesday he would be staying at Spurs this season.
Kane told Tottenham earlier this year that he wanted to leave the club.
But City have been unable to offer a fee that chairman Daniel Levy deemed enough for the 28-year-old’s signature.
Kane tweeted: “It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks.
“I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success. #COYS.”
