Liverpool’s reported transfer plans could be scuppered as emanating sources have claimed Barcelona are set to make an offer for Red Bull Salzburg forward Karim Adeyemi. The precious 19-year-old has burst onto the scene with some spectacular displays for the Austrian Bundesliga league leaders.

With fifteen goals and two assists in 22 appearances in all competitions, Adeyemi has announced himself as one of the hottest properties in Europe.

His eleven league goals have played an enormous part in RB Salzburg’s current steamrolling of the league, which sees them command a 14-point lead.

He has attracted huge amounts of interest from many of the top clubs in Europe, including but not limited to Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

However, huge reports from Sport1 claim Barcelona have entered the picture and could be willing to bid up to £34m for the German.

The Catalans’ presence in transfer speculation has skyrocketed since club legend Xavi returned to the Nou Camp as Ronald Koeman’s replacement.

At first it appeared Dortmund were the favourites to sign the teenager as they were willing to pay around £30m plus bonus payments to the Austrian giants.

It was also claimed they were willing to offer him an appetising salary of around £4.2m per season.

However, Liverpool were very interested in a possible move for the Salzburg winger in the summer, according to German outlet Bild.

Their interest in the youngster does not appear to have waned, particularly with the futures of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino still up in the air, despite the fact their contracts all expire in 2023.

However, if Jurgen Klopp’s side are interested in Adeyemi, they may need to start putting wheels into motion quickly, as Barcelona are also understood to be keen on making an “Offer this week”.

Xavi’s new side are believed to be willing to trump Borussia Dortmund’s offer, and would be willing to try and complete a move very quickly.

However, there is also a feeling around Adeyemi’s camp that his preference would be a move to the Signal Iduna Park. He is still in the early stages of his career, and Dortmund’s outstanding reputation of signing raw talent and moulding them into world class superstars precedes itself.

And it could be argued a move to Marco Rose’s side is a lot more realistic, considering the recent plights Barcelona have endured.

The Catalans’ horrific financial situation escalated to unprecedented heights as they had exceed La Liga salary caps to a point they were forbidden from committing Lionel Messi to a new contract.

While the club continue to fix a crumbling infrastructure, performances on the pitch were not faring any better. Xavi inherits a Barcelona side who have plummeted to ninth place in La Liga and are only just clinging onto second place in their Champions League group.

The World Cup winner has however managed to raise the morale by bringing back club legend Daniel Alves. The Brazilian right-back was a free agent having seen his emotional move to Sao Paulo turn into a nightmare.

He returns to the Nou Camp five years after leaving for Juventus.
