Liverpool are reportedly considering selling Fabio Carvalho this summer – providing there is an inclusion of a buy-back clause. The 20-year-old attacking talent arrived from Fulham last summer in a £7million deal and despite a bright start at Anfield, he has since fallen totally out of favour under Jurgen Klopp.
The Portuguese attacking midfielder played just eight minutes of Premier League action in the second half of the season after previously netting twice in his first five top-flight outings for the Reds.
Now his future at the club has been plunged into doubt after Klopp appeared to hint Carvalho could move onto pastures new much to the annoyance of disappointed supporters.
Now Fabrizio Romano is reporting that if Liverpool do decide to sell, they are strongly considering including a buy-back clause which will ensure they remain in control of the player.
Liverpool have already rejected a bid from RB Leipzig and there are also loan bids on the table from Premier League teams ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Burnley are thought to be among those interested in acquiring the services of the former Fulham playmaker, who remains highly rated within the game despite a tough debut season on Merseyside.
The inclusion of a buy-back clause is a negotiating ploy that has previously been utilised by Manchester City.
For instance, City will have the chance to re-sign Romeo Lavia this summer from Southampton with the Belgian already attracting interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.
The Premier League champions also had an option to buy Douglas Luiz back from Aston Villa after offloading the Brazilian midfielder in the summer of 2019.

City have also inserted buy-back clauses when selling Samuel Edozie and Juan Larios to Southampton last summer.
Klopp has already indicated Liverpool will opt to sell Carvalho as opposed to loaning him out.
He recently declared: “No player has impressed me more than Fabio, that’s the truth. This very talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations and it didn’t work out. His work ethic will give him a fantastic career.
“His reactions in a row [to not playing], I’ve never seen before, unbelievable.
“If we keep him, that’s all we will see. There are no plans for loans, we want to keep them. If we can give them the opportunity to play, we’ll keep them because they definitely have the quality.”
Liverpool are also reluctant to sell goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and Klopp has already made it clear he intends to keep the Irishman at Anfield this summer.
But if Kelleher wishes to depart Merseyside in pursuit of regular football, Liverpool could also look to include a buy-back clause that would enable them to sign the player back further down the line.
Brentford, Brighton and Tottenham have all been linked with the 24-year-old, who has secured cult-hero status at Anfield following a string of match-winning cameos between the sticks.
