There seems to be an affiliation with Liverpool and their former players that lasts a lifetime, as proven by ex-Reds man Jose Enrique with a brutal tweet mocking their Merseyside rivals Everton.
The Spaniard watched his former club seal their second trophy of the season after clinching the FA Cup on Saturday with a 6-5 penalty shootout victory over Chelsea. It was Liverpool’s first FA Cup triumph in 16 years and therefore the first time they have won the trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
Remarkably, it became apparent after their success at Wembley that Trent Alexander-Arnold, who played a key role in the final and has 13 assists this season, has collected a clean sweep of trophies at his boyhood club already at the age of just 23.
Posting an image of Alexander-Arnold kissing the cup, it read: “Since Everton last won a trophy, Trent Alexander-Arnold was born, grew up, came through the youth team, signed a first-team contract for Liverpool and won every major trophy an English club can win.”
And Enrique, stoking some fire amongst the Evertonians on social media, simply quote-tweeted it by saying “Stats don’t lie!” alongside a crying-laughing emoji. Yet, ironically, it seems some statistics do lie after all. Alexander-Arnold has lifted the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and EFL Cup.
But the full-back is yet to win the Europa League during his illustrious career to date, having not been part of the squad that lost the 2015-16 final to Sevilla. The general premise is of the tweet is clear: to mock the Toffees lack of success by highlighting Liverpool’s recent trophy haul, and Enrique, who spent five years at Anfield making 76 appearances for the club, understood his assignment.

While Liverpool are bidding to achieve an incredible quadruple this season, the Merseyside rivals could not be more different in terms of their season objectives. The Reds already have the FA Cup and Carabao Cup safely in their trophy cabinet and are aiming to add the Premier League and Champions League later this month, with Alexander-Arnold hungry for more success.
“It feels special,” said Alexander-Arnold, who became the sixth player to complete the sextuple. “Growing up you never think you will win all these trophies. You see legendary players who do that and you think it is unbelievable.
“To be able to say I have done that at such a young age is a dream come true and it is motivation to go on and carry on winning more trophies. Hopefully there is a lot more to come. The motivation is to win them all again and keep winning and keep adding to the trophy cabinet."
