LIVERPOOL supporters were left aghast after Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo finished above Mohamed Salah in this year’s Ballon d’Or rankings. The Reds’ winger, who is fondly known as ‘The Egyptian King’ by the Anfield faithful, finished in seventh position with 121 points while Cristiano Ronaldo was voted into sixth position after recording 178 points.
Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi took home the gong of best player in world football for the seventh time in his illustrious career.
The 34-year-old captained Argentina to their first major international title in 29 years; having spearheaded their triumphant Copa America campaign with four goals and five assists in seven appearances.
Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski finished in second placed after a record breaking year in Bavaria, while Chelsea midfield general Jorginho concluded his spectacular Champions League and Euro 2020 winning campaign with a third placed finish.
However, Liverpool fans responded in large numbers on social media, after Ronaldo finished above Salah in this year’s rankings.

Despite Jurgen Klopp’s men enduring a relatively lacklustre 2020-21 campaign, Salah still managed to notch thirty-one goals and seven assists in all competitions.
He also narrowly finished behind Tottenham Hotspur hitman Harry Kane in the Premier League golden boot race.
The Reds appeared destined to finish their first ever Premier League campaign outside of the top four places, but eight wins in their final ten matches saw them jump into third position.
And Salah’s five goals and two assists during that spectacular run played an enormous role, as Klopp’s men only just avoided disaster.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo also completed his very own rescue act as Serie A giants Juventus.
The Bianconeri endured a torrid title defence under legendary midfielder Andrea Pirlo, who was relieved of his services at the end of the season.
While the whole team struggled to find any consistency, Ronaldo managed to fire them into a top four position and to an Italian Cup, with thirty-six goals and five assists in all competitions for the Old Lady.
He also finished as the top goal scorer in Serie A with 29 goals in 34 appearances at the Old Lady.
Moreover, he also took home the Golden Boot at Euro 2020 with five goals in four appearances, as Portugal crashed out in the knockout-stages.
