Liverpool fans fume as ‘bottlers’ FSG decide Jude Bellingham ‘too expensive’

Liverpool fans are up in arms following news the club are set to pull out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham.

It emerged on Tuesday that the Reds are unwilling to meet Dortmund's asking price for the 19-year-old, which is understood to be over the £100m mark, leaving the door open for the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid.

The powers that be at Anfield, including both Jurgen Klopp and the club's board, are reluctant to blow their entire budget on Bellingham as they feel their on-field problems won't be solved by making just one signing in the summer.

Nevertheless, Reds fans weren't happy with the news, with some branding the club's owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) "bottlers" on social media.

"Waiting for what seems like a decade to sign @BellinghamJude, only for FSG to admit they won’t pay enough for him honestly feels up there with seeing Dwight Gayle equalise for Palace or seeing Villa bottle a 2-0 lead," one supporter tweeted.

Another fumed: "We wanted Jude for over a year. FSG had one job and they've bottled it," while a third added: "How much did they think they'd spend on a British sought-after talent? FSG are such a greedy lot. Club's 8th because of this same stingy nature."

The Merseyside club had been heavy favourites to sign the young midfielder for some time and it was understood that Bellingham's preference was to join Liverpool – but the club will now turn their attention to cheaper alternatives.

One option is Chelsea's Mason Mount, who is likely to leave Stamford Bridge if he fails to sign a contract extension in the coming weeks.

Liverpool are big fans of the 24-year-old and have been monitoring his contractual situation for the past few months, but the Blues are trying to convince him to stay.
