Liverpool are set to face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea as they prepare a £35million bid for Saul Niguez
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for midfielders after Georginio Wijnaldum left to join PSG on a free transfer.
And Atletico Madrid man Saul has been identified as a potential replacement with the Premier League side preparing an offer, according to AS.
The Spanish outlet says United are also monitoring developments, having tracked the midfielder for several years – especially given they could lose Paul Pogba this summer.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is also said to be a fan and will need to replenish his midfield options at some point, with N'Golo Kante now 30 and Jorginho just nine months his junior.
Saul is considering a move after getting less game time at the Wanda Metropolitano last term.
Bayern Munich were previously linked with a swoop – but AS says the 26-year-old believes his style would suit the Premier League.
Saul is contracted to Atleti until 2026 and it is claimed he has a huge €150m (£128m) release clause.
But the La Liga club are said to be willing to sell for less, and do not expect offers of more than 40m (£34m).

And Liverpool could have the advantage over their top-flight rivals – because Saul has previously spoken of his admiration for the club's former skipper Steven Gerrard.
"I started to love Gerrard and I thought I wanted to look like him," he once told the Spanish media.
"I think Steven had it all. He was super complete and I’ve I tried to work to look like him."
In 2014, he said: "Gerrard has always been a reference for me. He is a legend. A player who is able to win the ball, play it from behind, can get forward, will work hard to get it back.
"He is an example for anyone. Hopefully, someday the fans of Atletico look at me as Liverpool fans love him."
