Liverpool chiefs have reportedly been left baffled by rumours of Sadio Mane joining Real Madrid – and are confident he sees his long-term future at Anfield.
Mane has been one of the stars of Liverpool's rise to the top of the world game, having developed into a world-class talent under Jurgen Klopp's tutelage.
Having made last year's Ballon d'Or shortlist after helping the Reds become world and European champions, it was only a matter of time before speculation was sparked over Mane's future.
The most prevalent rumour was that he was destined for Madrid this summer, with Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane known to be an admirer of the 28-year-old Senegal forward.
But Liverpool have no plans to sell Mane or fellow forward Mohamed Salah, and the club's board were genuinely bemused by the transfer talk, according to The Athletic.
The publication reports that Liverpool's hierarchy are confident Mane wants to stay and help Klopp's side build on the European Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup they have won in the past 10 months.
Mane is contracted to Liverpool until 2023, but the club have already made it clear they would like to extend that deal.
And former Reds winger Steve McManaman – who left Liverpool for Real Madrid in 1999 – believes there is no reason why either Mane or Salah would quit Anfield at the moment.
“Well Real Madrid already have Eden Hazard, they bought Rodrygo last summer and they’ve just invested in Reinier in January, so I’d take a rumour like that with a pinch of salt," he told Horseracing.net.
