Liverpool midfielder Thiago has tested positive for Covid-19, the club have confirmed, after he missed Monday’s 3-1 win over Arsenal. The Spaniard is now self-isolating after the diagnosis. Thiago arrived at Anfield earlier this month from Bayern Munich for £27m.
Liverpool have confirmed that new midfielder Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for coronavirus.
The Spain international missed Monday’s clash against Arsenal after being ruled out hours before kick off.
Thiago was last seen training at Melwood last week, but is now self-isolating as per government guidelines in the UK.
It’s thought that the test was carried out at the end of last week, and two separate tests detected the condition in samples.
Thiago immediately went into quarantine to avoid infecting the rest of the Liverpool squad.
A club statement read: “Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.
“The 29-year-old, who missed Monday’s match against Arsenal, has exhibited minor symptoms of the virus but is in good health and is getting better.
“The club has, and will continue to follow, all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Thiago will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time.”

Liverpool’s first-team doctor Dr Jim Moxon added: “It is the choice of each individual whether they reveal publicly the outcome of a COVID-19 test.
“We have followed all the protocols to the letter and Thiago is OK. He will be self-isolating now as per the guidelines and hopefully he’ll be back with us soon.”
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insisted that it was a matter of fitness, as to why Thiago missed out last night.
“After the international break, he will be fine,” the German told Sky Sports.

“For sure and that’s the situation at the moment, he isn’t fit enough to be available tonight and that’s it.”
It’s thought that Thiago missed a number of training sessions in the build up to the win over Arsenal.
He is expected to return after the international break, as confirmed by Klopp.
But will miss Thursday’s Carabao Cup clash against Arsenal, as well as the trip to Aston Villa this weekend.
