Lionel Messi welcomed Barcelona stars to his house for ‘farewell dinner’

Lionel Messi reportedly hosted a farewell dinner at his house to say goodbye to his Barcelona team-mates.

It was announced on Thursday that Messi will not be signing a new contract at the Nou Camp due to La Liga regulations.

Both player and club agreed a new extension but it wasn't to be and Messi is now expected to join PSG.

He hosted a tearful press conference on Sunday, and the six-time Ballon d'Or winner said he had plenty of opportunities in his future.

Though he reportedly made sure he did not leave the La Liga giants without saying goodbye, with Sport claiming Messi welcomed his team-mates to his home on Friday.

It is claimed Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba were first to arrive with Gerard Pique and his partner Shakira arriving shortly after.

Sergio Aguero was also present with the former Manchester City star arriving alongside Messi's good friend, and YouTube star, Ibai Llanos.

"I'm so grateful for the love people have shown me these years," Messi told a news conference.

"I've been here my entire life, I'm not ready for this. And last year with all the nonsense, I was convinced of what I wanted to say, but this year it is not the same.

"This year my family and I were convinced we were going to stay here, that is what we all wanted more than anything.

“I offered to drop my wage by 50 per cent and Barcelona asked for nothing more. It was agreed but it wasn’t to be.

"The report that I asked for more money is a lie. As I said, I did everything I could to stay. A lot of the things that people are saying are not true.

“The talks stopped as Barca did not want to go on, they knew La Liga would not let it happen, it was impossible.

"As the president explained, the club have debt and we couldn’t do it. I need to be focussed on my career.”
