Lionel Messi could have a big impact on whether Real Madrid are able to sign Kylian Mbappe or not, according to reports. Messi is strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain following his shock departure from Barcelona. The Argentine is available on a free transfer and PSG are favourites to snap him up.
Despite no transfer fee being involved, Messi would demand an astronomical salary.
Whether PSG would have to offload one of their current high earners in order to afford Messi is a question many may pose.
Mbappe has entered the final year of his contract and Real Madrid are eyeing a move for the Frenchman.
However, it may not be the case that Mbappe has to leave to make room for Messi.

In fact, ESPN claims Messi’s arrival at PSG would increase the chances of Mbappe signing a new long-term contract at the Parc des Princes.
Real’s own financial problems mean that would put a huge dent in their chances of signing Mbappe in the next few transfer windows.
Spanish football expert Graham Hunter says it is the dream of Real president Florentino Perez to sign both Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
“Florentino has a dream that unites Haaland and Mbappe in the same white shirt, and they sweep the board again domestically and in Europe,” Hunter told the Transfer Window podcast.

“So that requires a huge, huge warchest.
“They are very difficult operations to complete but that’s his objective.
“In Florentino’s book he wants both of them now. Now it might be that he doesn’t get either or both until next summer.
“But watch that space, keep talking about it over the coming months if it doesn’t happen this August because it’s an outright obsession for the man who has tended to make his dreams come true.”

Speaking before news of Messi’s departure, Hunter said he was confident Mbappe will join Real at some point in the near future.
He added: “Florentino’s idea about getting Mbappe is lodged in his brain. He tends to get his way.
“He will accept having to fight a long war rather than a short battle and it’s going to be this summer or next summer that Mbappe’s a Real Madrid player, of that I’m certain.
“That takes a lot of money if there’s going to be a transfer fee now, or if there’s going to be a loan now.”
However, ESPN’s report throws doubt over whether Mbappe will eventually join Real.
