Leicester and West Ham have more ‘fake followers’ than Premier League rivals

Leicester and West Ham have more fake followers on their Instagram account than any of their Premier League rivals, a new study has found.

The Foxes currently have 5.8 million followers on the photo and video sharing social-media platform, while David Moyes' high-flying Hammers have a lower count of 1.8 million.

But according to research from Sortlist, around 30 per cent of both clubs' respective followers contain 'suspicious users' likely to be fake.

For Leicester, it works out as a staggering 1,856,000 fake accounts (32 per cent) on their Instagram account, while West Ham are said to have 540,000 (30 per cent).

Leicester are joint second in a list of 322 celebrity accounts, which includes musicians, reality TV stars, social media influencers, sports teams and more.

They are tied in second place with reality TV figure Mario Falcone, while influencer Jay Alvarrez leads the way in first place with 36 per cent worth of fake accounts.

The next Premier League team in the list is Everton, who are down in 14th with 28 per cent of their 2.5 million followers believed to be suspicious.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane and the England team he captains are joint in 65th place with Bayern Munich, as all three are said to have 25 per cent fake followers.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who has an astonishing 355 million followers on Instagram, reportedly has close to 85 million fake followers, which works out as 24 per cent.

The Manchester United superstar is tied with ex-Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale and the latter's former club Tottenham in the list, while tennis star Rafael Nadal is on the same percentage.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are all believed to have 23 per cent worth of fake followers, as do AC Milan and the Brazilian national team.

Sergio Ramos, Luis Suarez, Marcus Rashford, Alex Morgan, Inter Milan and PSG are all further down the list on 22 per cent, while Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, James Rodriguez and Eden Hazard are on 21 per cent.
