Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa could be set to welcome his fifth signing of the summer in the very near future, according to reports. Leeds have already acquired Amari Miller from Birmingham and Sean McGurk from Wigan to give them some up and coming talent for the future.

Junior Firpo has also joined on a permanent basis from Barcelona while Jack Harrison has completed a permanent move from Manchester City after two seasons on loan at Elland Road.

But their business isn’t expected to end there with Bielsa still keen to improve his options in midfield.

Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips were the two regulars in midfield for Bielsa last season with a host of players often filling in out of position.

Stuart Dallas, Tyler Roberts and Robin Koch were often called upon but Bielsa now wants to bring in recognised midfielders to help fill the void.

Lewis Bate appears to be a top target for Leeds having strongly been linked with a move to the north-west club.

The midfielder is highly rated at Chelsea, but he’s indicated that he won’t sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

His contract situation has alerted the attention of West Ham, Liverpool, Leicester and Brighton.

But Leeds appear to be leading the race for his signature and negotiations have already taken place.

And it seems as though Leeds have struck an agreement with Chelsea to make a deal happen.

According to Goal, Bate is closer than ever to sealing a switch to Leeds with Chelsea open to letting him leave.

The report suggests a move is extremely close with the possibility of a medical taking place tomorrow [Wednesday 21st July].

Bates, 18, is the latest in a long line of academy players at Chelsea to indicate they want to leave.

His imminent arrival at Leeds though doesn’t seem to put Bielsa off making more additions in midfield.

Metz star Farid Boulaya is also being linked with a move to Elland Road in a deal said to be worth around £3.8m.

And the 28-year-old’s agent has refused to deny ongoing negotiations between Leeds and Metz.

“All we can say at the moment is that we do not deny the links,” he stated.
