Laura Woods slaps down Gabby Agbonlahors miserable Arsenal celebrations rant

Arsenal fan Laura Woods has hit back at Gabby Agbonlahor for criticising Arsenal for their celebrations against Aston Villa.

The Gunners returned to winning ways after downing Steven Gerrard’s men 1-0 at Villa Park on Saturday to give them a huge boost in the battle for fourth. Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the match to put the north London side into a Champions League spot.

At full-time, Mikel Arteta and his players rejoiced with his side wary that every dropped point from now on will give the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham encouragement. But away from the pitch, Villa icon Agbonlahor was critical of Arsenal, insisting that they were “celebrating like they had won the World Cup.”

But talkSPORT presenter Woods slapped down the former Premier League star, saying on the radio station: “If you not allowed to celebrate your wins, no matter how big or small they are, what is the point of going to football?

"Should we wait until the end of the 38-match season and celebrate wherever we are in the league, it doesn’t really work like that.

“It is a clean sheet for a defence that had been called calamitous that we have now strengthened, so you have to applaud that too. That defence has really pulled together and improved.

“And just stop penalising people for celebrating, Gabby, it is football at the end of the day. You have to be able to celebrate, you have to be able to go to a game. And I loved that they celebrated, that is what Arsenal is about.”

Woods then further denounced Agbonlahor by replaying a clip last year of the ex-striker praising Gerrard for celebrating a goal with intense passion, adding: “But Gabby Agbonlahor, don’t listen to me, listen to your own argument.

“That’s what fans want to see, Gabby, people celebrating anything in the league. It doesn’t matter if you have just won the league or a single game. So well done Gabby for undoing your own argument before you have even made it.”
