Kieran Trippier may have already given a preference over whether he would sign for Manchester United or Arsenal this summer. It comes as interest in the Atletico Madrid ramps up over the transfer window.

Atletico Madrid star Trippier may have given an indication over where he would prefer to go this summer through comments he made in 2020.

The England international has been linked with a return to the Premier League this year.

It comes after two years in La Liga, where the 30-year-old has been an immense success.

He has helped Atletico to their first La Liga title since 2014 and was named in the team of the year along the way.

The former Tottenham star has insisted that Diego Simeone has improved him as a player from a defensive point of view.

Yet moving back to England has enticed him and United and Arsenal are looking to snap him up with one year left on his contract.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to bolster his right-back position and give Aaron Wan-Bissaka some competition.

While Mikel Arteta is likely to let Hector Bellerin leave this summer amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

But Trippier’s comments on the Gunners last year make it seem impossible that he would pick them over the Red Devils.

When asked to compare the Madrid derby and the north London derby, he told The Beautiful Game podcast: “It’s so big out here the Madrid derby.

“Even when I was playing for Tottenham, I felt – no disrespect to Arsenal – but I didn’t feel like it was our main derby.

“I felt it was Chelsea. I just felt like the emotion probably. Don’t get me wrong, Tottenham vs Arsenal is huge to the fans because it is what it is with them.

“As a player, for me and certainly for a few other players, the Chelsea game was a bigger game for them.”

As well as Trippier, United have their sights set on a number of players going into the transfer window.

Jadon Sancho is the top target but others include Declan Rice, Jack Grealish, Pau Torres and Raphael Varane.

Solskjaer is keen on bolstering his squad this summer as he still eyes that elusive first trophy as manager of the Red Devils, following defeat to Villarreal in the Europa League final.
