Karim Benzema sends message to Raphael Varane ahead of Man Utd transfer

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema sent a classy farewell message to team-mate Raphael Varane ahead of the defender’s move to Manchester United.

The Frenchman is set to join the Red Devils on a four-year deal this week after Real Madrid accepted a £39million bid for the centre-back, who had intimated he would not sign an extension to his contract at the club.

Varane won 18 trophies during his time at the Bernabeu and did so alongside Benzema, who joined the club two years before the defender opted for the Spanish capital over Manchester.

The defender will finally move to the Theatre of Dreams this week but there’s no ill-feeling between Varane and Benzema, with the former Lyon striker wishing his close friend all the best in the Premier League.

‘My brother, what more can I say except that you are a legend here,’ said Benzema.

‘I will miss you I wish you the best in your new challenge with all the happiness.

‘You deserve everything you have accomplished and I wish you even more.’

United will now look to recoup some of their £110m outlay on Varane and Jadon Sancho before addressing other areas of the squad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign a right-back, with Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier high on his list of priorities.

The club will also look to sign a new midfielder should Paul Pogba join Paris Saint-Germain.
