Jose Mourinho believes now is the time to replace David de Gea at Manchester United with Dean Henderson seen as a better option by the Portuguese manager.
The Special One spent two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford with De Gea a mainstay as his No 1.
During that period Henderson spent time out on loan at various clubs before settling at Sheffield United.
De Gea was a crucial player under Mourinho and remained in the top bracket of the world's goalkeeper.
But his form has since declined and he has made a series of high profile errors, most recently in Sunday's defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup.
Henderson meanwhile has put himself in the frame to become England's No 1 following an excellent season at Bramall Lane.
And Mourinho believes he should have the same role at Old Trafford, reports the MEN.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer though has come out fighting an defended his goalkeeper following his latest clanger.
The Norwegian insists that De Gea is strong enough to come back from his latest mistake and will not be dropping him.
"This is not going to become a David De Gea press conference,” Solskjaer said when asked about his No 1.
"We are just going to stick together. David’s mentally strong enough to know his job is to perform in training the next day and be ready for the games."
Solskjaer has already come out and said that Henderson will one day become No 1 at United.
But the 23-year-old maintains that, whilst he wants to play for the club, he is not interested in squabbling with De Gea for a starting berth.
It leaves United with a big call to make as Chelsea weigh up a lucrative offer in a bid to prise the keeper away from Manchester.
