Jamie Carragher questions Kai Havertz signing after another poor Chelsea showing

Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has questioned whether Kai Havertz is a good signing for Chelsea.

Havertz was subbed at half-time having struggled against the Premier League champions Liverpool in Sunday’s defeat.

He wasn’t helped by the sending off of Andreas Christensen moments before the break but Havertz had struggled during the first 45.

He joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer with Frank Lampard’s side paying £89m for his services.

Havertz came with a strong reputation having impressed for Leverkusen when playing through the middle, though has been playing on the right for the Blues.

And Carragher wonders where Havertz fits in with Lampard’s current system, telling Sky Sports: “I do look and think, ‘where does Havertz play? Where does he fit into a 4-3-3?’

“He almost looks like a No 10 and we don't see them as much in football now. Where he played today, I don't think that suited Chelsea.”

Chelsea lost 2-0 to Liverpool with Sadio Mane scoring both goals in the second half following the red card and Havertz’s substitution.

And Carragher’s fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp insists Havertz needs to be given time to settle following his tricky start to life in west London.

Redknapp said: “You've got to give Havertz time. We have to be careful. We're judging a player. You've got (Christian) Pulisic and (Hakim) Ziyech to come in (as well).
