Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish have been named among the Premier League's biggest flops for last season after their £73million and £100million transfers to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively.

Sancho and Grealish both managed a measly three goals and three assists across their 29 and 26 outings in the league, costing more than £10m per goal contribution in their underwhelming debut campaigns.

In a study conducted by Odds Scanner, the duo are named 12th and 11th across Premier League forwards who played at least 1,000 minutes who managed the least goal contributions, with Armando Broja, Jordan Ayew, Jay Rodriguez, Adam Armstrong, Francisco Trincao and Josh Sargent inside the top 10 – with the top three below.

In third is Chris Wood, who swapped Burnley for Newcastle in January but only scored two goals across 1,327 minutes of playing time – with one contribution per 664 minutes.

In second is Milot Rashica of Norwich who failed to help Dean Smith's side avoid relegation, scoring once and laying on two assists at an average of 743 minutes for each.

In first is Adama Traore of Wolves, who was keen to leave the club on loan to join Barcelona having managed one goal contribution after 1,067 minutes of Premier League action.

Going forward, ex-Borussia Dortmund forward Sancho will be keen to have a good start to the new Premier League season under Erik ten Hag, after Gareth Southgate admitted he and fellow United frontman Marcus Rashford have plenty to do in order to break back into the England squad.

Southgate was asked this week if United's dismal 2021-22 season and failure to secure Champions League football makes it harder for their players to get a call up.

He said in response: "We've only got one with us [Maguire]. They've got a lot to do to get back in the squad."

Grealish, on the other hand, remains a key part of Southgate's plans after winning his first Premier League title, despite the former Aston Villa man's minor involvement in City's success.

Southgate said when asked if Grealish is a starter or an impact sub in his plans: "He can do both.

"If we didn't trust him we wouldn't put him on the pitch with 20 minutes to go in the belief he can make a difference."
