‘If he has to… he puts me on in the 80th minute’: Isco caught on camera slamming Zinedine Zidane’s timing of his substitutions as Real Madrid playmaker grows frustrated at lack of playing time

  • The 28-year-old has only started twice under Zinedine Zidane so far this season

Real Madrid midfielder Isco has been caught on camera criticising the timing of his substitutions by manager Zinedine Zidane during El Clasico on Saturday.

The 28-year-old, who was an unused substitute during the 3-1 win against Barcelona on Saturday, is growing frustrated at the lack of playing time under Zidane so far this season.

Isco has featured just twice from the start and speaking to team-mates Marcelo and Luka Modric, that anger boiled over as he detailed when Zidane substitutes him on and off the pitch off, as reported by Spanish outlet Deportes Cuatro.

Isco was filmed by Spanish TV station Movistar saying: ‘If he (Zidane) has to bring me off, he substitutes me in minute 50 or 60 of the game, sometimes at half-time.

‘If he has to put me on, he puts me on in the 80th minute.’

Modric and Marcelo both smiled as Isco unleashed, while Luka Jovic nearby did not appear distracted by the conversation and continued to use his mobile phone.

The Spain international has now not been used by Isco in the team’s last two matches – the win against Barca and the Champions League defeat at home to Shakhtar Donetsk last week.

Despite Isco’s anger, Madrid secured a crucial 3-1 win over their rivals on Saturday afternoon

Before that, Isco started but was taken off at half-time in the shock 1-0 loss at home to Cadiz, while he has not played for more than 57 minutes in one match.

However, he has featured just once in the 80th minute or later, when he made a late one-minute cameo in the 2-0 win against Levante on October 4.

However, Isco is still a vital member of the squad, having made 30 appearances in all competitions during the last campaign.

Despite his anger at a lack of regular involvement, Zidane’s decisions on Saturday proved correct as goals from Fede Valverde, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric secured a vital three points.

It means Real are now second in the LaLiga table, one point behind table-toppers Real Sociedad who have played a game more.

Isco, meanwhile, will have to wait and see if he’s included at all in Madrid’s next game, away to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
