How Man Utd could line up with Gareth Bale as Real Madrid believe transfer might happen

Manchester United have spent most of their transfer window chasing Jadon Sancho. However, over in Spain, they claim Real Madrid believe the Red Devils may make an offer for Gareth Bale instead. So Express Sport will now take a look at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could line up if the Wales international makes the move to Old Trafford.

Goalkeeper: Dean Henderson

United have had David De Gea as their No 1 ever since 2011 when he joined from La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

But, with Dean Henderson not being loaned out, it’s likely he’ll get the nod between the sticks.

Henderson doesn’t want to play second fiddle to anybody. He’s made that abundantly clear to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has rewarded him with a new contract.

And, as a goalkeeper very much in form and on the up, it may be his time to shine.

Defenders: Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw

United have interest in Dayot Upamecano, having been impressed by the 21-year-old’s fine performances for RB Leipzig last season.

But recent reports have suggested they’re willing to wait until 2021 to bring the Frenchman to Old Trafford.

Therefore, there’s a chance that United’s back four may be the same as last season.

That would mean Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw playing at right-back and left-back respectively, with Diogo Dalot, Tim Fosu-Mensah and Brandon Williams all in reserve.

And United would likely field Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof together on a regular basis, like Solskjaer has done so far.

Midfield: Van de Beek, Pogba, Fernandes

United have made one signing of the summer so far, bringing Donny van de Beek to the club in a £40million deal.

And it’s feasible the Ajax star will go straight into Solskjaer’s side.

Van de Beek could partner Paul Pogba in the middle of the park, with Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay all on the bench or in reserve.

And that would allow United to field Bruno Fernandes further forward.

The Portugal international has been sensational ever since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January and is the talisman of Solskjaer’s side at the current time.

Attack: Bale, Martial, Rashford

If United do sign Bale, he’d go on the right wing.

That would allow the Wales international to cut in on his favoured left foot, like he’s done for Real Madrid over the years.

In the middle would be Anthony Martial.

The France international has done enough to keep Mason Greenwood at bay in the No 9 role – for the time being at least.

And Marcus Rashford would pitch up on the left of the Red Devils’ attack.
