The award is one of London’s most ancient traditions, believed to have first been given in 1237 where it enabled recipients to carry out their trade.

Hayward said: ‘Harry Kane is an outstanding sportsman and role model for young footballers, having achieved so much before the age of 30.
‘Born and raised in London and admired by many millions of followers of the beautiful game – not just in this country, but around the world – it was our pleasure to welcome him and his guests to Guildhall.’
The award tops off a memorable individual season for Kane, where he has surpassed Jimmy Greaves to become Tottenham’s all-time leading goal-scorer and overtook Wayne Rooney as England’s record marksman, too.
Born in Walthamstow, Kane joined Tottenham’s academy in July 2009 and signed his professional forms a year later. He’s gone on to make 434 appearances for the club, scoring a record-breaking 278 goals.
