Haaland asks Odegaard for advice over summer transfer as bidding war begins

Erling Haaland has asked Arsenal star Martin Odegaard about life at Real Madrid as speculation over his future continues to mount.

Haaland, 21, is one of the hottest properties in world football and will be available for a cut-price £63million this summer thanks to a release clause in his contract. The Norwegian has no shortage of potential suitors, with Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona all interested in acquiring his services.

There's no obvious frontrunner in the race to sign Haaland, but only a few clubs have the financial capital to make a deal work in the long term. Real are one such club – and it now appears the forward has asked his Norway team-mate Odegaard about what life is like at the Bernabeu.

Odegaard knows a thing or two about the Spanish capital having joined Los Blancos from Stromsgodset in 2015. And although he had several loan spells away from the Bernabeu before joining Arsenal, Odegaard still made 11 appearances in the famous all white of Real.

He confirmed that he and Haaland had spoken about Madrid while on international duty with Norway and said: "We are good friends so we talk about lots of things, like when I was there. So yeah we talked about it but it’s not anything special."

Haaland looks set to leave Dortmund at the end of the season but whether he will join Madrid is up for debate. Florentino Perez has his heart set on signing PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, which would make a move for Haaland appear doubtful.

Club legend Guti says that if his old side want to sign Haaland, it's now or never. He told El Chiringuito: "Mbappe inspires enthusiasm among all of us, not just at Real Madrid. It's very important for La Liga that he comes.

"And if Haaland can come, all the better. If they don't sign Haaland now, they will never sign him. Because then he'll go to another big club and it will be difficult to sign him. Benzema is great but look at the age he is," he added. "Hopefully he can hold out longer, but he's his age and if you can spare him in games and use Haaland instead, all the better."

Haaland has suffered with injury problems this season but has still managed an impressive total of 23 goals in as many matches.
